[Current concept on spine metastases management]
Abstract
In the article we present the contemporary point of view on the role of operative treatment in metastatic lesions in spine. The malignant tumors becoming more often encountered lesion. Due to the index treatment and increasing survival of those patient the metastases are more commonly observed. Without possibilities to treat the cause of the neoplasm the combined treatment is the best choice. Operative treatment options with metastases in spine are related to the clinical status and live expectancy. In the modern orthopedic approach, for patient in good clinical condition, the aggressive operative treatment with tumor excision is preferred with subsequent restoration of the spine stability. This allows swift postoperative mobilization without additional orthotic support.
