Abstract

Within the last 25 years flexible endoscopy became the gold standard of intraluminal diagnostic procedures of the gastrointestinal tract. Innovative diagnostic techniques which might improve our facilities are real and virtual chromoendoscopy, optical cohearance tomography (OCT) and endomicroscopy. Innovative treatment options are the flexible diverticulotomy of symtomatic Zenker diverticula, curative treatment of early cancers of the whole GI tract, endoscopic antireflux treatment and even transgastric resections of different organs.
