[Diastolic dysfunction and diastolic heart failure]
Abstract
Clinical and epidemiological population-based studies have showed that about 30 to 50% of patients with congestive heart failure have a preserved left-ventricular ejection fraction. This condition is defined as diastolic heart failure. The definition, pathophysiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment of diastolic heart failure are briefly summarized.
