Transferrin receptor regulation coordinates placental iron uptake with maternal stores
Abstract
Transferrin receptor expression in the placenta may be regulated by the level of transferrin iron in maternal serum. This control mechanism assures a safe yet sufficient supply of iron to the developing fetus.
