[Retroperitoneal sarcomas: a case of a malignant giant fibrous histiocytoma]
Abstract
The authors report their experience with a case of a voluminous retroperitoneal malignant fibrous histiocytoma. A 74-year-old woman was admitted for a palpable mass in the right abdomen. Magnetic resonance confirmed a solid mass and showed its relations to the adjacent organs. The tumour was resected completely, and histological examination revealed it to be a malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the storiform-pleomorphic type. Eleven months later, a local recurrence developed and a second operation was performed. The Authors go on to examine the diagnostic and therapeutic treatments of these rare neoplasms with reference to the international literature.
