Deep-vein thrombosis--an unusual cause of low abdominal pain

M M Koopman et al. Neth J Med. 1991 Dec.

Abstract

Three patients with an isolated iliofemoral thrombosis are described. All three patients initially presented with low abdominal pain and were suspected of intra-abdominal diseases. Ultrasonographic examination, performed because of this suspicion, revealed the iliofemoral thrombosis. After starting anticoagulant therapy the symptoms were relieved. Possible pathophysiological mechanisms are discussed and the literature is briefly reviewed.
