Apoptotic PS to phagocyte TIM-4: eat me
Abstract
Although cells dying by apoptosis expose the classical "eat me" signal phosphatidylserine (PS), a phagocytic transmembrane receptor for PS has proved elusive. Now cell and structural studies (Kobayashi et al. [2007] and Santiago et al. [2007] in this issue of Immunity) implicate the type I molecule TIM-4.
