An imaging overview of primary tumors of the spine: Part 1. Benign tumors
Abstract
Primary benign tumors of the spine are uncommon, with intriguing clinical and imaging manifestations. Presentation of a solitary lesion of the spine can pose a difficult diagnostic dilemma. We revisit the imaging characteristics of benign spinal tumors, realizing that a concise and handy overview of disease findings can prove useful for radiologists and clinicians engaged in routine practice. This review may serve as a comprehensive imaging tool summarizing key manifestations of disease. A broad range of benign spinal tumors is illustrated, with emphasis on the imaging features that may allow prospective diagnosis in most cases.
