[Mild hypertension in middle aged adults]
Abstract
Mild hypertension (stage 1 or grade 1 hypertension) is defined as systolic blood pressure from 140-159 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure 90-99 mmHg in adults. Blood pressure levels are significantly related to mortality from strokes, cardiovascular diseases and all cause of death. The incidence of mild hypertension is reported as about 25% in over-thirties and 60% in all hypertensive patients. Low birthweight, increased sympathetic nervous activity, and worsening of life style profiles are associated with the risk of developing mild hypertension. Early therapeutic intervention including life style modification is needed to prevent the sustained mild hypertension.
