[Equation for estimating GFR from creatinine in Japan]
Abstract
Accurate estimation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is crucial for diagnosis of chronic kidney disease. To create new Japanese equations for estimating GFR, data of inulin clearance and serum creatinine (SCr) were collected from 80 medical centers in Japan. Using 413 patient data, we computed the new 3- and 5-variable Japanese equations. Using 350 patient data, we evaluated resulted GFR for accuracy. The new equations performed with significantly lower bias and higher accuracy within 30% deviation in comparison with the original MDRD Study equation. The new Japanese equations provide more accurate estimation of GFR for Japanese population.
