[Late sequelae of HCV infection]
Abstract
A short overview on long-term sequelae of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has been provided. Disorders related to chronic HCV infection are the main cause of liver insufficiency and the main indication for liver transplantation worldwide. Extrahepatic manifestation can result in lymphoproliferative diseases. Every fifth patient with chronic C hepatitis is in danger of progression to liver cirrhosis and 3 to 10% of cirrhotic patients will eventually develop hepatocellular carcinoma.
