Abstract

Results of 24 subtotal colectomies with antiperistaltic cecorectal anastomosis without colon ascendens and sigmoid dislocation were analyzed. 19 patients were operated on for cologenic chronic constipation (first group) and 5 earlier colostomized patients, who comprised the second group, had simultaneous reconstructive operation with pathologically altered colon removal. No postoperative complication were registered. 11 patients complained of diarrhea a month after the operation. Within 6 months an average defecation frequency was 1.7 in the first group and 2.2 in the second group. Colectomy with antiperistaltic cecorectal anastomosis is technically easy and provides good functional results.
