STUDIES ON THE OXIDATION-REDUCTION OF HEMOGLOBIN AND METHEMOGLOBIN : IV. THE INHIBITION OF "SPONTANEOUS" METHEMOGLOBIN FORMATION
Abstract
It is well known that methemoglobin is gradually formed in sterile blood or hemoglobin solutions which are stored under the usual conditions. If the hemoglobin is reduced by biological agents and stored in the absence of air, the formation of methemoglobin is inhibited, or wholly prevented. The reasons for this are discussed.
