Metasynthesis: a goldmine for evidence-based practice
Abstract
Metasynthesis is a technique that can help establish qualitative research as a viable source of evidence. Using this approach, results from multiple qualitative research studies on the same topic are combined and synthesized to reveal the best evidence. This article addresses metasynthesis and its application to perioperative evidence-based care. Noblit and Hare's method for synthesizing qualitative research is described and illustrated using a previously published metasynthesis of postpartum depression research.
