Vaccines and periodontal diseases--an insight
Abstract
Vaccination against periodontal diseases is an innovative approach to combating periodontal diseases. Although discussed briefly some 50 years ago by Bibby, it has been popularized with the late twentieth century technologies and current understanding of periodontal microbiology. This review discusses the potential for a vaccine against periodontitis.
Clinical relevance: A vaccine is a possible protection strategy for primary prevention of periodontitis.
