The role of digital technologies to decrease the radiation exposure from X-ray diagnostics to the population of Ukraine
Abstract
Over 40 % of the collective dose to the population of Ukraine is due to prophylactic photofluorography. The transition to digital technologies in X-ray diagnostics allows not only one to raise efficiency of X-ray examinations, but also to reduce the radiation exposure to the population. Based on statistical data about the X-ray systems available today, the present study indicates that replacement of all photofluorography by digital chest radiography has the potential of decreasing the collective dose to the population in Ukraine by more than 30 %.
