Non-tuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis in children: diagnosis and management
Abstract
Lymphadenitis is the most common manifestation of nontuberculous mycobacteria infection in children. Its frequency has increased over the past few decades. Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation, purified protein derivative skin test, and bacterial isolation. Management options are surgery, antibiotics, or "observation only"; however, the optimal therapy for this condition is still controversial.
