Stress, genetics and the upregulation of neuropeptides in the skin contribute to the inflammatory response underlying psoriasis. Further, psoriasis can be associated with a systemic inflammatory response(25,26,27,28) which could exacerbate negative psychosocial states, resulting in high levels of anxiety and depression(–13).
