Pregnancy is a “stress test” that can reveal subclinical trajectories and identify new opportunities for chronic disease prevention (adapted with permission from Sattar N and Greer I, BMJ 2002;325:157–160). 1A. Women at high risk of future cardiovascular disease are identifiable during pregnancy, at which point subclinical vascular risk may become clinically evident 1B.
