Cryopreservation and transplantation of ovarian tissue
Abstract
Cryopreservation and autotransplantation of ovarian tissue for fertility preservation is considered an experimental technique. However, in some clinical situations it remains the only option. Eleven pregnancies have been reported worldwide from this procedure. Transplantation of ovarian tissue pieces without a vascular pedicle requires the establishment of a new blood supply that takes 5 days. This leads to a substantial loss of follicles in the graft that may limit the longevity of the graft.
