Excerpt

In summary, we are approaching 20 years of research on a bacterium proven to be the cause of gastritis and indisputably correlated with the development of peptic ulcers and the progression to cancer. Presently, over 12,000 articles have been published on "Helicobacter," not counting articles under the previous classification of "Campylobacter." Researchers have established many important facts about H. pylori and are hot on the trail of many others. In this book, we have attempted to summarize the body of knowledge about this species. Internationally recognized scientists, many of whom have made salient discoveries, have summarized their respective topics. For these reasons, the editors are pleased to present the state-of-the-art knowledge in one volume.
