Schematic of the molecular adsorbants recirculation system. Fluid flow direction is delineated by arrows. Blood passes first through a hemodiafilter with albumin dialysate in counter current flow and is returned to the patient. The “saturated” albumin is recirculated through a series of adsorbant columns then hemodiafiltration before it is returned to the clean albumin reservoir.
