This Statistical Brief compiles information from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) on emergency department (ED) visits and hospital inpatient stays related to back problems in 2008. Characteristics of ED visits and hospitalizations related to back problems are compared to all other types of visits and stays. Age, patient location, expected primary payer, and top co-occurring diagnoses are examined.
