Retrospectives and perspectives on the biological activity of histidine-containing dipeptides
Abstract
1. An evaluation of the biological function of histidine-containing dipeptides, is presented. 2. These have been found to be potent pH-buffering compounds, strong antioxidants and membrane stabilizers. 3. Analysis of the biological and biomedical properties of carnosine and other related dipeptides suggests their use as universal membrane repairing compounds.
