Isoprenoids in three-dimensional space: the stereochemistry of terpene biosynthesis
Abstract
This review summarises the accumulated knowledge about the stereochemical courses of biosynthetic reactions to isoprenoids. Important pathways of the primary metabolism (mevalonate pathway, deoxyxylulose phosphate pathway) to the monomeric isoprenoid building blocks, the biosynthesis of the oligomeric linear precursors, and reactions to (poly-)cyclic mono-, sesqui-, and diterpenes are discussed.
