SDS-PAGE of OMPs from carbapenem-susceptible K. pneumoniae strains (S1 to S5 and ATCC 13883) and carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella strains (K. pneumoniae Z2110, Z2554, K1, K10, Z4, and Z5 and K. oxytoca ZC101). Strains were grown in Mueller-Hinton broth (Oxoid, England) overnight at 37°C with shaking, and outer membrane proteins (OMPs) were extracted as described by Hernandez-Alles et al. (6). OMPs were separated in 11.6% acrylamide-0.4% bisacrylamide-0.1% SDS gels. The gel was run at a constant current of 20 mA and was visualized by staining with Coomassie brilliant blue.

No signal was detected in the mass range between 40,000 Da and 80,000 Da, and these regions were not displayed. The mass spectrum was analyzed using FlexAnalysis 3.3 software. The software performed smoothing and baseline subtraction and created a list of the most significant peaks of the spectrum. The arrows with solid lines indicate OmpK35 and OmpK36.
