Juvenile-onset diabetes mellitus in a sickle cell anaemia patient
Abstract
The case of a 10-year old sickle cell anaemia patient presenting with juvenile-onset diabetes mellitus is reported. The possibility of sickle cell anaemia being a predisposing factor to early onset of diabetes in an individual with a positive family history of the disease is highlighted. A review of pancreatic function in sickle cell anaemia is also undertaken.
