Neonatal melioidosis: systematic review of the literature
Abstract
Twenty-two cases of neonatal melioidosis were identified with the primary outcome from a systematic review, and the clinical presentations were either bacteremia and/or meningitis with Burkholderia pseudomallei isolated in all cases. Ten cases reported the mode of transmission: infections that occurred from mother-to-child transmission (20%), and infections that were probably healthcare-associated (40%) and community-acquired (40%). The crude mortality was 73% (16/22).
