The role of magnetic resonance imaging in the evaluation of spinal disorders

Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging has rapidly evolved into the imaging method of choice for the majority of spinal disorders. Advances in MRI technology are continuing and should improve the diagnostic capability of the technique. If there is uncertainty about the diagnosis on the basis of MRI, however, the clinician should combine MRI with other studies such as CT scanning and/or myelography.
