The human genome project and international health
Abstract
KIE: The authors see the human genome project as a "public good" in the best sense. They optimistically describe the medical benefits that the developed and the developing worlds will experience when the principal goal of the genome project, to assist medical researchers in their assault on disease, is realized. Watson and Cook-Deegan also summarize current genome projects around the world, touch upon the broad social implications of genome research, and emphasize the international nature of the genome mapping effort.
