Abstract

A simple, nondestructive kanamycin spraying assay for detecting neomycin phosphotransferase II activity in tomato has been developed. This assay does not require the use of tissue culture or biochemical methods, but allows transgenic and non-transgenic tomato plants to be distinguished directly at the plant level in the green-house. Its potential applications in large-scale genetic analyses are discussed.
