Respiration induced by blue light
Abstract
The high rate of respiration in Chlorella which is found after feeding with glucose or after a longer period of photosynthesis, declines in the dark in the course of hours to about a quarter of its original value. Blue-green light (λ<550 mμ) specifically counteracts this decline and maintains the high rate. This blue light effect is independent of photosynthesis.
