[Preparation-related effects on the coagulation activity of plasma]
Abstract
Empirical experience, scientific investigations and technical improvements made it possible to use also the plasma of blood donations to produce factor VIII concentrates. Because of the permanently increasing demand for factor VIII this is of eminent importance. In addition, the introduction of affinity adsorption steps using monoclonal anti factor VIII antibody columns for purification at the same time result in lowered yields of factor VIII. Taken together, these quantitative problems might lead to collapses on the factor VIII market.
