Figure 1. Functional connections between antibiotics' modes of action and regulatory RNAs.
sRNAs modulate protein activity or influence target mRNAs fate. Some of those sRNA targets are part of cellular processes that can be affected by antibiotics. Accumulating evidence suggests that several sRNAs alter antibiotic resistance by modulating bacterial cell wall (SprX), cell membrane (RybB), transcription (6S RNA), and translation (tmRNA).
