[Infections with human pathogenetic papillomaviruses]
Abstract
So far, more than 57 types of HPV have been characterized. In contrast, we only know a small number of clinically definable types of warts. Since the individual forms of HPV each have their own oncogenic potential, we should like to get more information on the specific virus-type at least in epidermodysplasia verruciformis and genital lesions. In epidermodysplasia verruciformis, malignant transformation is usually linked to HPV 5, 8, or 14, while HPV 16 and 18 are found in about 70% of pre-cancerous and cancerous genital tumors.
