Adherence of Candida to mucosal epithelial cells
Abstract
Adherence abilities of 45 Candida strains to human buccal and vaginal epithelial cells in vitro were tested in two media: 0.9% saline and phosphate buffer. Candida albicans cells adhered more strongly to epithelial cells than fungal cells of other Candida species. These findings were statistically significant according to Mann-Whitney's "U" test with buccal epothelial cells in both of the test media and with vaginal cells in saline only.
