[Experimental studies for urinary incontinence. Effect of beta 2-agonists on the vesicourethral function]
Abstract
Terbutaline and clenbuterol, which are both selective beta 2-adrenoceptor agonists, produced a concentration-dependent decrease in contractile force of in vitro rabbit detrusor and proximal urethral smooth muscle. Conversely, terbutaline and clenbuterol produced a concentration-dependent increase in basal tension of in vitro rabbit external urethral striated muscle. Clenbuterol, orally administrated, produced an increase in urinary bladder capacity in cystometry and also an increase in maximal urethral closure pressure in urethral pressure profile. These results suggest that the beta 2-adrenoceptor agonist may be beneficial for urinary incontinent patients.
