[The autonomic nervous system and reticular formation in normal and pathologic states]
Abstract
Patients with autonomic disorders that are located in the brain and spinal cord also have abnormalities in the corresponding reticular formation, especially in the brain stem. Treatment should be adequate and combined because the same adreno- and cholinoreceptor structures are damaged as those in autonomic innervation. This also refers to the limbic formations which are intimately connected with autonomic structures and the reticular formation.
