[Radiotherapy of primary brain tumors]

Abstract

Radiotherapy as primary therapy or combined with neurosurgery is a proven treatment modality for brain tumors. Results have been clearly improved by the advances in surgical and irradiation techniques, and the systematic combination of both types of treatment. The indications and treatment techniques are described and a summary of the therapeutic results is given. Brain tolerance and radiation-correlated complications are also discussed.
