Microbial forensics: next-generation sequencing as catalyst: The use of new sequencing technologies to analyze whole microbial communities could become a powerful tool for forensic and criminal investigations

Irene Kuiper. EMBO Rep. 2016 Aug.

Abstract

Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) of microbiota has great potential to aid forensic and criminal investigations. Yet, NGS would require a thorough technical and biological validation of its various applications in forensic science before it can be used as a standard tool to generate reliable evidence for police, courts, and juries.
