Deep Vein Thrombosis in a Skier's Leg

Abstract

In brief A 65-year-old man's left calf became swollen and tender after a day of telemark skling. Physical examination suggested thrombosis of the deep calf veins; ultrasonography and venography confirmed the diagnosis. With leg elevation, heat, rest, and ambulatory anticoagulation therapy, the patlent recovered fully. Minor trauma, dehydration, and a possible hypercoagulable state might have contributed to clot formation In this otherwise healthy, active patient.
