Looping around Bcl6 in Germinal Center to Sharpen B Cell Immunity

Gangqing Hu et al. Immunity. .

Abstract

We are beginning to understand the function of 3D genome architecture in the immune system. In this issue, Bunting et al. (2016) reported massive multi-layer genome reorganization from naive B cells to germinal center B cells, centered on a locus control region of Bcl6.

Figure 1.. Multi-layer 3D Chromatin Reorganization during the Transition from Naive B Cells to GC B Cells
Top: loss of interactions between p- and q-arms of a chromosome. Middle: merge of gene neighborhoods into gene “cities” with enhanced interactions among promotors and enhancers. Bottom: reorganization of 3D chromatin interactions centered on Bcl6 and an upstream LCR, accompanied by upregulation of GC-specific (GC-sp) transcription program.
