Endophthalmitis--an ocular emergency
Abstract
1. Classic signs and symptoms of endophthalmitis include: pain, photophobia, acute visual loss, hypopyon, loss of red reflex, vitreous haziness, and conjunctival injections. 2. It is critical to obtain a vitreous sample for culture since the vitreous is the ocular tissue in which the infection thrives. 3. Infectious endophthalmitis is one of the few definite ocular emergencies. 4. Whenever the diagnosis of endophthalmitis is suspected, the patient should receive an immediate ophthalmic examination.
