Abstract

Preview Lactose intolerance is highly prevalent among certain ethnic populations and should be suspected when evaluating gastrointestinal complaints in members of such groups. The disorder can be associated with many intestinal diseases and with medication use, and in rare instances it is congenital. The authors discuss methods of clinical evaluation and offer basic dietary recommendations for patients with lactose intolerance.
