Commentary: The neonatal brain and the challenge of imaging biomarkers, reflections on Batalle et al. (2018)

John H Gilmore. J Child Psychol Psychiatry. 2018 Apr.

Abstract

This review by Batalle et al. comes at an important time in the field as neonatal imaging has matured to a point that important questions can now be asked in a more definitive way. Identifying imaging biosmarkers that reflect the prenatal and early childhood origins of cognitive ability, behavior, and risk for neuropsychiatric disorders is now possible, and this commentary offers suggestions for addressing some of the challenges that lie ahead.
