A conceptual framework for action on the social determinants of health, 2010. Data source: World Health Organization. Used with permission. In this framework, structural determinants of health, including socioeconomic and political context and the person’s socioeconomic position, are considered upstream factors that influence the equity in health and well-being. Intermediary determinants of health, such as material circumstances, behaviors, and psychosocial factors, are considered downstream factors.
