Cell therapy for cardiac repair. A: current understanding of cell therapy. To date, various sources of cells have been injected into animals to test the efficacies of cell therapy. Among the proposed mechanisms of action, the most probable mechanism is of paracrine effects of the injected cells. To improve the beneficial effects of cell therapy, various methods have been proposed and tested. B: resistin treatment improves the beneficial effects of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) via the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9-ERK pathway.
