Enhanced inhibition relative to excitation was observed between P28 and P33/34 as measured by spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents, and the increased amplitude and frequency of spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents in layer 5 pyramidal neurons. Additionally, the ratio of excitation to inhibition was seen to decrease significantly during this period as measured by evoked postsynaptic currents.
