Swallowing problems in the tracheotomized patient
Abstract
Tracheotomy has been performed for many years to treat a variety of obstructive airway conditions; it has also been used to aid in the treatment of chronic aspiration. In reality, tracheotomy may cause more aspiration than it prevents. This article reviews the swallowing problems encountered in tracheotomized patients.
