Brief history and biology of skin grafting
Abstract
Skin grafting is a modern addition to surgery but with ancient roots. Its biology has come to light only within the last 50 years, and research continues into its basic mechanisms. A brief history of skin grafting from Susruta to Reverdin and Ollier and the mechanisms of skin grafting featuring recent research effects are reviewed.
